Bodegas Baigorri – Rioja Alavesa, D.O. Ca. Rioja

What happens when a brilliant Basque architect pairs with an equally gifted, aesthetically attuned winemaker amidst the majesty of Spain’s Rioja Alavesa region? Bodegas Baigorri, replete with gravity-based system,  sleek glass box design, and an ethos of excellence.
Specifically, wines such as Bodegas Baigorri Crianza 2007 – Samaniego, Spain in Rioja Alavesa, D.O.Ca. Rioja, enjoyed during binNotes’ recent San Sebastián Food Wine Tasting.

Geek Speak: Aged 1 year in the bottle, ~2 years in the barrel (7 mos. American and 7 mos. French oak), 90% Tempranillo, 5% Garnacha Tinta (red Grenache), 5% Mazuelo, 14% Alcohol.
Tasting Notes: Smooth, balanced acid/tannin;  translucent color; hints of cherry and secondary notes of  licorice. Check out their website – well worth the side trip: www.bodegasbaigorri.com. Salud!
