TW 2012: Note to Self

Note to self re: Taste Washington 2012: focus…Focus…FOCUS!!!

With over 220 wineries, 50 restaurants, and 45 vendors overflowing the CenturyLink Field Event Center, not to mention droves of VIPS, guest chefs and rabid food-and-winers to maneuver, binNotes CAN make one sober observation: Everyone brought their A-Game.

And, despite the distractions, some clear contenders DO emerge from the spit-bucket of samplings to incorporate into binNotes ‘Armageddon 2012’ Wine list.

Drumroll, please…:

PhotoFinish: (Definite Armageddon 2012 A-Listers – too close to call):

L’Ecole No. 41 – 2008 Estate Merlot, Walla Walla (I know, I know – the 2008 Estate Perigee Red Bordeaux Blend- Walla Walla rocks, too.)
DeLille Cellars – 2009 Chaleur Estate Red Bordeaux Blend – Red Mountain (Ok – anything from DeLille, really, but an executive decision had to be made.)
Col Solare – 2008 Shining Hill Red Blend, Columbia Valley

Best in Show: (Worth inviting to the party):

Tranche Cellars: 2007  Slice of Pape Red Rhône Blend (Glorious garnet robe, smooth finish.)
Forgeron Cellars: 2007 Infinity Blend (VERY tough call between this and their 2010 Vigneron Select Chardonnay – artist at work.)
Waters Winery: 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon – Columbia Valley (pretty red dress, balanced, with a soft kiss of finish.)

Trifecta (Solid pours across the boards):

Rotie Cellars: Skillful homage to CDR.
Terra Blanca Winery
Unique expressions and sense of place.
Cuillin Hills Winery
Delicate flavors, very feminine viognier.

Ok, while it feels like binNotes left no winery untasted this weekend, some may have been overlooked (regrets…) Stay tuned…the countdown to binNotes’ ‘A-List 2012’ continues…cheers!
